Burma’s cyclone death toll rise

Burma’s state media said that the death toll from the devastating cyclone has now risen to more than 22,000.At least 41,000 are also missing three days after Cyclone Nargis hit the country, causing a huge tidal surge to sweep inland.

Kennedy returns home after diagnosis of malignant tumor

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy left Massachusetts General Hospital today and returned to Hyannis Port, heading home a day after he had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.“Kennedy has recovered remarkably quickly from his Monday procedure and therefore will be released form the hospital today ahead of schedule,” said his doctors, Dr. Lee Schwamm and Dr. Larry Ronan, in a release this morning.

An Arab newspaper Al-Hayat has published what it says are excerpts from diaries written by the ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein while in captivity.Al-Hayat said it had obtained extracts from the handwritten memoirs, which the paper said ran to five big volumes.

The study of 33 volunteers, to be published in the June 2008 edition of Psychological Science,by U.S. researchers from Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Stanford and the University of Pittsburgh has found that people who feel sad are more prone to spending money, compared directly to people who are not sad.Lead study author Cynthia Cryder, a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University said that a high degree of self-focus can carry over to spending.
