Australia sending additional soldiers to East Timor

Blaze ravages London market area

Up to 100 firefighters have been tackling a major blaze that ravaged the famous markets area in Camden Town, north London.

The fire was reportedly centred on Camden Canal Market, to the east of Chalk Farm Road.

Six charged for Sept. 11 terror attacks

The Pentagon has charged six detainees at Guantanamo Bay with murder and war crimes in connection with the Sept. 11 terror attacks said Brig. Gen. Thomas W. Hartmann,the legal adviser to the U.S. military tribunal system.Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the attacks, in which hijacked planes were flown into buildings in New York and Washington, Mohammed al-Qahtani, the man officials have labeled the 20th hijacker; Ramzi Binalshibh, said to have been the main intermediary between the hijackers and leaders of Al Qaeda; Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, known as Ammar al-Baluchi, a nephew of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who has been identified as Mohammed’s lieutenant for the 2001 operation; al-Baluchi’s assistant, Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi; and Waleed bin Attash, a detainee known as Khallad, who investigators say selected and trained some of the hijackers.

East Timor president shot at home

East Timor’s President Jose Ramos-Horta is in a stable condition after he was shot at around 0600 on Monday (2100GMT Sunday) in the stomach by rebel soldiers,Alfredo Reinado, a renegade soldier who had threatened to use force against the government, in a pre-dawn attack, a spokesman said.

Sharia law ‘unavoidable’ says Archbishop of Canterbury

The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4’s World at One, that the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK “seems unavoidable”.Dr Rowan Williams said that UK has to “face up to the fact” that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.H added that an approach to law which simply said that there is one law for everybody is a bit of a danger.Dr Rowan Williams said that Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court, and that they should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty”.

Woman Kills 2, Herself at La. College

A female student at Louisiana Technical College shot and killed two women in a classroom at one of the school’s Baton Rouge campuses today before committing suicide, police said.”It appears that one of the deceased is the actual shooter. She shot two other young women in the classroom, killing them before turning the gun on herself. She did not at any point leave the classroom; no other students outside of the classroom were involved or were in any danger.”said Sgt. Don Kelly in a televised press conference.

A decapitated body found in north-west London

A decapitated body has been found wrapped in a blood-stained duvet behind a row of shops at Kingsgate Place in Kilburn in north-west London.A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the dead person is an adult male, but no head has been found and the victim has not been identified.

Police track kidney doctor to Brampton, Canada

Tornadoes and thunderstorms ravaged several states in the American South overnight, killing at least 31 people, the Associated Press says, injuring dozens and causing widespread damage.Deaths have been reported so far in Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky.

Bush $3.1 trillion budget

President Bush submitted a federal budget of $3.1 trillion on Monday, declaring that the spending plan would keep the United States safe and prosperous and, that would boost military spending and trim health benefits for retirees.“Our formula for achieving a balanced budget is simple: Create the conditions for economic growth, keep taxes low, and spend taxpayer dollars wisely or not at all,”said President Bush.For Democrats, the Bush budget “is fiscally irresponsible and highly deceptive, hiding the costs of the war in Iraq while increasing our skyrocketing debt,President Bush’s fiscal policies are the worst in our nation’s history — he has turned record surpluses into record deficits — and this budget is more of the same,” Said Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Senate majority leader,in a statement.
